Our Favorite Fall Board Books for Toddlers (Ranked!) 🍂📚

Fall is the perfect season for cozying up with a blanket, a warm drink, and a stack of board books. My boys love flipping through seasonal reads, and over the past few weeks, a few clear favorites have emerged. Some books get pulled off the shelf night after night, while others sit a little longer between reads. I thought it would be fun to share our fall board book lineup — from most read to least read.

📚 Most Read Favorites

1. Llama Llama Trick or Treat – Anna Dewdney

Our number one, hands down! The rhythm is familiar, the costumes are adorable, and it’s the perfect length for a bedtime read. This one gets requested constantly.

2. Five Little Pumpkins (Glow in the Dark)

This interactive book is such a hit, especially at night when the pumpkins glow. The boys love pressing on the cut-out pumpkins and chanting along.

3. Llama Llama Gives Thanks – Anna Dewdney

A sweet, cozy read for November. Simple rhymes with the familiar Llama Llama characters make it a comforting choice.

📖 Medium Rotation

4. Teeny Tiny Turkey – by Rachel Matson, illustrated by Joey Chou

Bright colors, engaging illustrations, and a playful little turkey. It’s a fun read that gets picked a few times a week.

5. First 100 Spooky Words – Priddy Books

This is more of a picture vocabulary book, but it’s great for pointing, naming, and practicing words. My toddler especially loves finding the bats and pumpkins.

📕 Less Read

6. Spooky Pookie – Sandra Boynton

Even though we love Sandra Boynton books in general, this one doesn’t get requested often. Cute concept, but not in heavy rotation.

7. You’re Purrfect to Me – Sandra Magsamen

Sweet and simple, but not very seasonal, so it doesn’t get picked much compared to the pumpkin and turkey books.

8. I Love to Gobble You Up – Sandra Magsamen

A fun, novelty book with a felt turkey, but it’s more of a quick “flip-through” than a storytime staple.

Why We Love Seasonal Books

Having a basket of seasonal reads makes storytime feel fresh and festive. The boys love the repetition of old favorites, and I love that we’re building traditions around books. Fall is full of pumpkins, costumes, and gratitude — and these books bring that right into our living room.
