Build a Village: A Simple Plan to Support a New Mom (That Actually Helps)

They say “it takes a village,” but what does that even look like in real life? When you’re in the thick of newborn life—running on coffee and three hours of sleep—it’s the small, consistent support that makes all the difference. That’s why I made the Village Plan: a simple, flexible chart that helps friends and family show up in real, helpful ways for a new mom. No awkward “Let me know if you need anything.” No overwhelm for the mom trying to juggle meals, visitors, and her mental health. Just clear roles, doable support, and a lot more love.

What is the Village Plan?

The Village Plan is a printable chart designed to help your people plug into your postpartum season in a way that feels meaningful—without you having to manage it all.

You (or a friend organizing for you) can fill out each section based on who’s available and willing to help. It’s like assigning love languages—but for support. 💛

Categories Include:

  • The Encourager: texts affirmations, reminds you you’re doing great

  • The Meal Fairy: brings food (or Starbucks!), stocks snacks

  • The House Help: folds laundry, loads the dishwasher, empties the trash

  • The Baby Whisperer: holds baby so you can shower, nap, or breathe

  • The Errand Runner: Target runs, Amazon returns, quick pick-me-ups

  • The Boundaries Buddy: helps you protect your space when you're too tired to say no

How to Use It:

  • Print it out and keep it on the fridge (or inside a shared Google Doc if your village is virtual

  • Assign friends/family based on their strengths or what they want to help with

  • Share it at your baby shower, in a group text, or with your doula/postpartum planner

  • Let it be a guide, not a rulebook—adapt it to what you need
